Maleficent’s Prayer

mirror mirror on the wall

show me a world where i love myself

show me a universe where night is revered

darkness worshipped

where charcoal skin is treasured

chocolate eyes enamored

where wedding gowns are obsidian

and ravens are flown instead of doves

a penny is worth millions

and grey skies signal joy from God above

where nocturnal is normal

hyperpigmentation celebrated

where black is beautiful

But doesn’t have to stated it

where dark doesn’t have to be qualified with

and lovely

or tall and handsome

or there’s meat down there

where we don’t have to be cocoa or Godiva

melanated kings or queens

or subjects of awestruck stares

where Webster says that light means

catastrophe

cataclysm

gloom

ghoulish

misfortune

and devastation

black holes are the center of all creation

show me a world

where i can just be
